Mother’s Day is celebrated on May 12th of each year and it was first brought into observance by AunaJarvia of Philadelphia. The very first celebration of the Mother’s Day was in Greece, as a tribute to Rhea, the Mother of Gods. But it was AunaJarvia, who wanted this day to be a holiday and she had launched a campaign for it. This she had done in memory of her mother who had died in 1905. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed Mother’s Day as a national holiday to be held on the second Sunday of May.
Countries like Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia and Belgium also celebrate Mother’s Day on the same day as the U.S. it’s an overwhelming day for the whole world to celebrate it. Some sees their country as a motherland and praise it. This is the day when we can shower love to our country, our mothers and anyone mother like.
Mother’s Day is celebrated in various parts of the world to show respect, love, and care towards mothers and motherly figures. On this day, children express their gratitude towards their mother, who is endowed with all power and selflessness. On Mother’s Day, schools organize various events such as: essay competition, drawings, speeches, dances and so on to honor the role of Mothers in the society. Children participate in events to express their love towards their mother.
Nobody can replace the role of ‘Mother’, as they are like a security blanket and they protect their children and loved ones at all costs. She is the backbone of the family and spends whole day working and dedicating herself for the betterment of her family without any expectation of any reward or payment.
She also plays the role of a teacher to her child from an infant age and bestows good manners, etiquette, morality, humanity, kindness and other important values of life. She is the supreme and divine creation of God. There is a saying that “Behind a successful man, there is a hand of a woman”; the woman is none other than our mother.
Many believe that Mother’s Day was created with reference to the Virgin Mary, who was the mother of Jesus Christ. Catholic families and churches believe and consider Mother Mary to be a Holy Entity and worship her as the universal symbol of ideal motherhood. It is not necessary that Mother’s Day can only be celebrated with our biological mother; it is for all women who are out in the world, and who share the feeling of being there for their child.
Mother’s Day is also a huge shout out to all those mothers who have adopted a child and provided them home and comfort and unconditional love and care. Motherhood is a human relationship not governed by theoretical or anatomical logic; instead, they revolve around much deeper, delicate sensibilities and feelings. It can be celebrated in a very individualistic and homely way as well.
