A Speech on Malnourishment (Template)

Good morning to all of you present here. Today I am here to deliver my speech on malnourishment.

What is malnourishment?

Malnourishment is the lack of proper nutrition, caused by not getting enough food or not eating enough quantity of the right things, or food ingredients, or being unable to use the food that one does eat.

Malnutrition is a common condition that must be treated quickly and surely. Registered diet experts and nutritionists are working hard each and every day to improve the speed and accuracy of malnutrition diagnosis and nutrition intake in the health care system. Malnutrition is a physical state of unbalanced nutrition of a person or children, which can cause due to many different reasons.

When most people think of or talk about malnutrition, they usually define undernutrition, which can be caused by a lack of calories, protein or other nutrients which are essential for our body and mind. This happens frequently in the countries of the world without adequate access to food and clean drinking water.

Malnutrition in the poor children, especially young children, of many countries can lead to their ill growth or stopping their bodily growth completely, developmental delays of mind and body and more sickness due to their poor immune function.

Clinical malnutrition is the health status when a patient in the hospital becomes malnourished. There can be many reasons why someone in the hospital may not be getting enough nutrition for their quick recovery.

Some symptoms of malnourishment can be:

  • a lack of appetite or taking any food
  • irritation and tiredness
  • absentmindedness or lack of concentration
  • feeling cold all the time
  • anxiety or mentally down
  • loss of body fat and muscle volume
  • getting sick within a short time gap
  • taking long time to heal

Causes

The most important and major cause of malnourishment is poverty. Then comes the other causes like, increasing food prices, wrong and unscientific dietary practices and also lack and insufficiency in the agricultural productivity, with many individual cases being a mixture of several factors. Various types of analysis or tests also have to be done in order to determine and reach the main causes of malnutrition or malnourishment. For example, the rapidly growing population of a community that is within poor governments or of a poor country, they cannot get sufficient amount of food products to be fully nourished.

Solutions:

Some solutions to fight this problem can be:

  • Increasing the diversity of foods consumed by the patient or child: We have to give proper attention that a malnourished person can take different types of food to remain properly nourished.
  • Food fortification – Refers to the addition of micronutrient to make the food healthy and full of good nutrients.
  • Supplementation – gives emphasis on giving various pills and medicines having good nutritional values.
  • Public health measures – Refer to infection control and regular check-up by the trained doctors or good health workers for the proper treatment of the patient.

At last I want to say that our government should take some big steps to eliminate this huge problem of our country by their resources and goodwill.

Thank you.
